Department Overview The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for UNT's academic mission, including teaching and service. The provost's office provides leadership in the development and supervision of the university's academic programs and curriculum in conjunction with the deans and faculty representatives. And it collaborates with the Office of Research and Economic Development in promoting faculty and student scholarship. 

This position reports to the Office of the Provost and is a split appointment serving both the College of Public Affairs and Community Service (CPACS) and the College of Merchandising, Hospitality & Tourism (CMHT).  
Job Description The Office of the Provost at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Academic Financial Officer to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: 

Serves as the chief financial officer for the colleges and is the principal financial advisor to the Deans. Manages all functions associated with developing and monitoring the college's annual budget; works collaboratively with university financial officials in budget preparation, financial projections, and responds to requests for financial information in a timely manner; makes recommendations for budget reductions and/or reallocations. 

Supports Deans and college leadership in strategic financial analyses to include financial forecasts/projections of current operations, predicts resource requirements for new programs, recommends financial alternatives if corrective action is deemed necessary, and prepares proforma financial analyses in support of evaluating strategic alternatives. 

Directs and coordinates the administration of staff and academic hiring, compensation and payroll; advises Deans and others on equity/market salary concerns and organizational impact of job grading and classification; assists the Dean and others in the development of hiring plans/projections and in the development of offer letters 

Provides direction to department chairs and administrative coordinators in budget preparation, procurement, and compliance.

Utilizes information technology tools and software systems to provide meaningful financial management information to college leadership and departments. 

Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, spending guidelines and cost principles to include but not limited to the Texas General Appropriation Act, Internal Revenue Code, 2CFR200-Uniform Guidance, and endowment MOU requirements. Ensures that financial transactions are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. 

Tracks and monitors non-appropriated accounts to include foundation accounts, grants and contracts. 

Advises Vice Provost for Academic Resources and other Provost Office leadership about financial matters and the control environment in each college. Seeks advice and counsel to address such matters when appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree with coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field and six years of progressively responsible financial administration or budget management experience. Additional education may be substituted for required experience. Experience may not be substituted for education.  
Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: 

7+ years of progressively responsible budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic planning experience in a higher education setting. Thorough knowledge of current accounting principles, and applicable laws and regulations. Advanced demonstrated skills in financial analysis and direct experience with administration of sponsored projects. Skilled with computer applications in budgeting and financial planning models.
