POSITION DESCRIPTION 
The Director of Finance and Accounting is responsible for the finance and accounting operations for New England Culinary Institute and Virginia Marti College of Art and Design , including production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records , internal controls and budgets, audits, and other risk mitigation tools in order to enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results. Ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and regulatory reporting requirements. 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration, or equivalent business experience and a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible experience in a similar role. Preference will be given to candidates with the Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Oversee the operation of the finance and accounting functions. Recommend changes to the organizational structure necessary to 
achieve each department's goals and objectives 

2. Maintain and improve all company's systems of internal management controls to ensure financial activity is properly authorized, executed and recorded. Identify and report transactions that appear in conflict with corporate by-laws, grants of authority or sound financial management practices 

3. Review, update and maintain accounting policies and procedures 

4. Manage the accounting operations of subsidiary corporations, their internal control systems, transaction-processing operations and enforcement of policies and procedures. 

5. Maintain an organized and consistent the chart of accounts 

6. Protect the integrity of financial records by maintaining accurate and organized accounting filing system 

7. Manage the monthly close process including review of staff prepared monthly sub-ledger, balance sheet reconciliations and the preparation of draft internal financial statements within required time frames 

8. Ensure the timely payment of financial obligations including compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings 

9. Ensure prompt collection of customer receivables. Periodically review and adjust category based allowances for doubtful accounts 

10. Collaborate with SFS, Student Accounts and external collection agencies to ensure prompt collection of students receivables 

11. Establish a financial management system based method to manage and report recurring financial obligations, lease and contract renewals 

12. Coordinate the provision of documents related to the annual audit and tax filings 

13. Calculate, research and review financial and operating metrics including variances from the budget and report significant issues to management. Recommend suitable benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations 

14. Manage the compilation and production of the annual budget and regular forecast updates 

15. Oversee the biweekly payroll process for all subsidiaries 

16. Provide weekly and monthly financial statements as requested by the President related to cash, P&L, capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations 

17. Ensure required debt payments are made on a timely basis Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants 

18. Review and monitor performance of outsourced functions related to financial operations or reporting 

19. Other duties as assigned 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS 
While performing the duties of this job, employee is frequently required to stand, sit and talk or hear. Occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
