Purpose
The Office of Undergraduate Programs (OUP) serves prospective and current BBA, preferred admission and Minor in Business students. The Program Officer, Academic Success will develop, plan, and execute a residential academic summer program for a targeted population of incoming Ross School of Business undergraduate students. This program will provide relevant coursework for credit and programming designed to provide a foundation for success as a Ross BBA student. This position will also contribute to programming through the first year of the Ross BBA for this population of students who were enrolled in the summer program.

Responsibilities*

Program Development and Execution

  • Assist with academic success related programs including MREACH, Ross Summer Connection (RSC), Preparation Initiative (PI) and LEAD Summer Business Institute.

  • In coordination with Academic Success team, appropriate Ross faculty and staff, develop a summer session for a defined group of high school students (up to 100 students).

  • Collaborate with team to determine and coordinate coursework (credit and non-credit), instruction, and other workshops/events as needed for summer programs, Preparation Initiative and MREACH.

  • Facilitate execution of respective program objectives by identifying and fostering key relationships at the school, campus, and at community levels. This position will build/maintain key relationships with other University departments/donors.

  • Identify and engage other first-year Ross BBA students who could benefit from program services.

  • Develop informational and program materials as needed.

  • Prepare, create and update program materials, communications, websites, newsletters, and presentations as necessary.

  • Advise and support undergraduate students in programs.

Program Administration and Coordination

  • Oversee the planning and coordination of logistics of programs, including campus housing.

  • Plan organizational meetings with faculty and staff directors on design, finance, and operational aspects of programs.

  • Manage all forms of correspondence related to programs with internal and external constituents.

  • Hire, train, and supervise temporary staff as needed for programs.

  • Review work log for temporary staff and approve time.

  • Oversee and maintain project timelines and deadlines.

  • Maintain central database for programs.

  • Manage communication to other faculty and staff in the programs as necessary.

  • Collaborate with departments on campus to serve student needs.

Partnering and Innovation

  • Function as a primary and/or representative for the programs.

  • Work closely with OUP staff on shared initiatives.

  • Serve as liaison between programs’ students and applicable Ross and/or University departments.

  • Represent the Ross School of Business at related events and conferences.

  • Respond to e-mail, phone, and written requests for program information from prospective and current undergraduate students and families.

  • Contribute to and collaborate on the Ross School’s Strategic Diversity and Inclusion goals.

Evaluation and Process Improvement

  • Monitor effectiveness of programs. Solicit and respond to feedback regarding various aspects of the programs.

  • Gather respective program data using the most relevant method (survey design, survey administration, focus groups, etc.).

  • Analyze data, present findings and recommendations to program directors and recommend actions for future programming and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure that program costs remain within projected budget guidelines and execute events within budget.

  • Monitor expenses, conduct reconciliations, and prepare reports on activity costs.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three to five years’ work experience with program coordination. Preferred experience with students at an educational institution and program management.

  • Experience supporting students in an academic program.

  • Must have proven ability to successfully interact with diverse populations and to promote intercultural competencies.

  • Values teamwork, collaboration, creating safe spaces, inclusion and positive results.

  • Demonstrated project management, event planning and organizational skills; strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to exercise initiative as a critical member of a team and to work independently with high efficiency and productivity.

  • Professional demeanor and customer-service oriented manner.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a timely manner.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), website applications, and M-Pathways Financials (or comparable system).

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with academic residential programs strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with a diverse population of college students preferred.

  • Experience with gathering and analyzing data in a clear and concise manner.

  • Ability to self-start and manage tasks and expectations.

  • Passion for students, academics and making an impact.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • The person in this position routinely works with multiple moving parts in each program that impacts students.

  • The person in this position routinely communicates with students, staff and partners about programs, events, and activities.

  • The person in this position routinely presents information at meetings and events.

  • The person in this position occasionally moves through the building to attend meetings/events and access files or information.

  • The person in this position routinely moves materials weighing up to 20 pounds to classrooms for seminars or presentations.

  • The person in this position routinely works collaboratively with other team members and support all work respectively.

  • Will require work during early mornings, nights, and/or weekends.

  • May require living in a UM residence hall for duration of program(s) during the summer.

  • Local and domestic travel may be required for high school visits and presentations.
