Job Description

The Management, Information Systems, and Quantitative Methods (MISQ) Department of the Collat School of Business at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor faculty member in Information Systems to begin Fall 2020.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform data mining, topic modeling, big data analytics and natural language processing. The duties of successful candidates include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, including programming, business analytics, data visualization, all within and IS context. Specifically, teaching courses such as IS 417 – Introduction to Business Intelligence, IS 418 – Applied Data Science for Information Systems, and IS 617 – Data Science for Business (graduate level course) are required. Ability to teach SAS, Python, Tableau and Rapid Miner, along with other languages, is required as part of the material in the courses taught. Teaching online is also required as part of a masters program that operates 12 months per year.

Candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research and potentially publish the results in Information Systems and Management Sciences peer-reviewed journals, particularly n journals that appear in the Financial Times 50 and the Australian Business Deans Council A* list.

The salary for this position is $131,000.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Information Systems, Information Technology, Business Information Technology or Business Analytics from an AACSB accredited School or College of Business.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in software engineering and software development is desirable. Experience in both course and program development at both the undergraduate and graduate levels is desirable.
