The Financial Services Office (FSO) at the Desert Research Institute is hiring a Budget Analyst. This position will be challenging yet exciting due to DRI’s soft funded nature. The analyst position is key to supporting the Budget Manager with various tasks. The successful candidate will develop functional understanding of DRI’s business processes which is critical to the successful institutional data analysis and production of standardized and ad hoc reports as required for internal and external needs. This position will be located at DRI’s Reno, NV campus and exhibit the highest professional standards, ethical principles, and dedication to providing the highest quality of service and accurate work product to all constituencies of the Institute.

Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):

  • Aids in the development and monitoring of the annual and biennial operating budgets.

  • Assists in preparing State and NSHE (Nevada System of Higher Education) required monthly, quarterly, and annual fiscal management reports.

  • Monitors State appropriation funds and assists in the management of non-sponsored research accounts.

  • Prepares various monthly and quarterly management reports for use by various DRI faculty and staff.

  • Acts as point of contact for customers of the Financial Services Office and helps to troubleshoot any issues or discrepancies identified with current reporting structure.

  • Monitors activity of internal accounts to ensure proper and adequate use.

  • Approves budget transactions and transfer journals initiated by divisions or departments.

  • As needed, prepares budget transactions, journals, and EIB templates.

  • Plays an active role in the implementation of the NSHE-wide budget software, Anaplan.

  • Acts as a model builder (report writer) for DRI under the leadership of the Budget Manager.

  • Assists the Budget Manager and Controller in the preparation of any year-end reconciliations and/or analyses, as needed, for financial or other annual reporting.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field from an accredited institution and two (2) years of related experience.

  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Excel; budget and accounting software.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Superior written and oral communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.

  • Skilled at building and maintaining excellent customer relationships.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Excel skills.

  • Workday Experience.

Conditions of Employment

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary is commensurate with experience and education. DRI offers a benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurance; including 15.25% retirement match, 24 annual leave days, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, 11 paid holidays, educational benefits, and the choice of two health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts. Additionally, there is no state income tax and no social security deduction. This position is eligible for relocation assistance.
