FINANCIAL OFFICERCivil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), to manage and perform complex, comprehensive financial management of sponsored research activities, including pre-award administration, including developing and submitting research proposal; post-award administration of grants/contracts, including ensuring compliance with MIT policies and sponsor requirements; and serving as one of CEE’s primary information resources on research administration matters. Responsibilities include preparing and submitting research proposals and contracts, including assisting with budgets and administrative content; preparing reports and forecasting and disseminating information to faculty and staff; reviewing and approving research proposals; overseeing cost-sharing, under-recovery, overruns, and other research-related issues; coaching/mentoring and training departmental staff engaged in research administration; liaising with RAS, VPR, VPF, SoE, and various central administrations; recommending policy, new initiatives, and enhancements; ensuring timely processing and submission of information related to sponsored activity, including progress reports, financial reports, cost-sharing sheets, F&A under-recovery distributions, eDACCAs, protocol applications, invoices, travel reports, reconciliations, account projections and forecasts, salary distributions, and account closeouts; ensuring that research cost objects are closed out on time and not overrun and that payroll suspense is clear on time; and other duties as assigned. May assist with developing and managing the General Institute Budget.

 

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: bachelor‘s degree in finance/accounting; at least five years’ financial management experience; experience in administration of sponsored research programs in a university setting; strong communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team, handle deadlines and stressful situations, multitask, process detail-oriented work, and learn changing grant/contract management-related technologies; knowledge of federal guidelines; and advanced-level Microsoft Excel skills. PREFERRED: Kuali Coeus, SAP, Cognos, Brio Query, and NIMBUS experience. Job #19212-8
