Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Academic Advisor position, in the Business and Public Safety Technologies Division. This position is located on Atlanta Tech's main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta.
 
 
The Academic Advisor in the Business and Public Safety Technologies duties include, but may not be limited to:

 

  • Providing comprehensive advisement services for students on enrollment and academic requirements (focus on Business and Public Services division);
  • Monitoring student registration activities and recommending solutions to academic difficulties;
  • Coordinating communications to the students regarding advisement, academic calendar and other related issues;
  • Maintaining accurate electronic records of interactions with students;
  • Serving as a student advocate when appropriate;
  • Referring students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as financial aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes, and business office questions;
  • Providing specialized advisement and onboarding support for new students in the BPST Division;
  • Assisting students with Academic Planning who require assistance;
  • Assisting in the management of early alerts for students as needed;
  • Understanding the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for the release of student information to faculty, parents, students, etc.
  • Performing additional duties, as assigned.
 
 
 
Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate a Bachelor’s degree Bachelor’s degree in a related field AND Two (2) years of related work experience. Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis. Must possess and demonstrate excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

 
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications possess and demonstrate the following:
  • Master’s degree in Education, Counseling or a closely related field AND five (5) or more years of professional experience in a post-secondary educational setting, preferably a public community college system.
  • Strong knowledge of CTAE (Career, Technical, Agricultural Education) pathways.
  • One (1) or more years of experience with divising, retention and/or student success programs. Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
