The College of Natural Sciences, Forestry and Agriculture is seeking a highly qualified person to fill the position of Finance Manager. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Finance & Administration. The position will provide financial services to several units within the college and will work directly with the unit leaders and faculty within those units. The college is a complex organization made up of eight schools, three additional academic departments, numerous teaching and research facilities, five research farms, a green house, a marine center, and the University Forests. The college has a base budget of approximately $33 million dollars and over $20 million in grants awarded annually. The Maine Experiment Station receives annually appropriated formula grants with unique compliance and reporting requirements. Typical hiring range for this position is $40,000 to $43,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

  • A Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven record of team-work, customer service and professionalism.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good follow through in communication regarding the status and completion of tasks.
  • Excellent spreadsheet skills and the ability to work with reporting tools such as query.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proven attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to handle and impart information of a confidential nature.
  • Knowledge of the MaineStreet, Marketplace, and Concur or other similar financial systems.
  • Experience in financial analysis, account reconciliation, purchasing, expense reports and journal entries.


  • Previous work experience in a university setting.
  • Knowledge of grants and contracts.
