Nonprofit Management Assistant Professor

Full Job Description

We seek a faculty member who will advance our students’ academic and field knowledge, enrich their professional networks, prepare them for careers in the nonprofit sector, and enhance the capacity of the nonprofit sector in the region and beyond.

In collaboration with existing department faculty, this position supports interdisciplinary teaching across the undergraduate nonprofit management program, including the following undergraduate courses: introduction to nonprofit management, program development and evaluation, fundraising, budgeting and financial decision making, community development, civic engagement and advocacy, statistics, research methods, capstone course and supervision of interns.
With support from SRU’s office of community engaged learning and in partnership with a wide range of off-campus community partners, faculty teaching in this program are expected to incorporate service-learning and other high impact practices into each course.

This faculty member advises the program’s pre-professional organization and coordinates progress of students seeking the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance’s Certified Nonprofit Professional credential and induction into the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council’s Nu Lambda Mu international honorary. In addition, this faculty member will be expected to make contributions toward the development of an online master’s degree in nonprofit, with eventual teaching in this new graduate program.

Further, this faculty member will support the operation of the Institute for Nonprofit Leadership at SRU including strengthening the Institute’s networks, conducting research, engaging students and other SRU faculty to support Institute research and programming, and assisting in the capacity building of nonprofit organizations served by the Institute.

All department faculty are expected to recruit/advise/retain/mentor both online and face-to-face to undergraduates. Finally, the successful candidate will actively engage in advancing these programs to regional/national recognition.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Nonprofit Management, Human Services Administration, Macro Social Work, Public Administration and/or Public Policy, or closely-related field with a specific concentration in nonprofit management and/or policy studies. (ABD applicants acceptable so long as terminal degree is earned by July 1, 2022).
  • Evidence of successfully engaging students actively within and beyond the classroom, including high-impact pedagogical practices, civic engagement, and/or community-based research.
  • Experience in utilizing interdisciplinary thinking and constructing cross-sector collaboration to address nonprofit sector capacity building and community priorities.
  • Experience supporting the work of nonprofit organizations and/or working with or as a nonprofit professional.
  • Proof of providing both traditional and online course delivery.
  • Record of relevant scholarly activity.
  • Successful performance in an on campus interview and teaching demonstration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous undergraduate teaching experience relevant to the position
  • Experience establishing/working in an academic research center, community-based research/development center, and/or nonprofit leadership academic center.
  • Engaged with nonprofit organizations and/or nonprofit networks across western Pennsylvania.
  • Proven track record as a nonprofit manager and/or consultant.
  • Experiencing teaching in a graduate level nonprofit management program.
  • Experience with leading a program to national distinction.
