Summary

The University of Michigan Shared Services Center (U-M SSC) is a customer service organization focused on providing user-friendly and cost-effective administrative services to the university community. The SSC offers important financial and human resource transaction services to customers through consistent processes and promoting technology.

The Business Analytics Team is transforming the way data is delivered and visualized to guide decision-making across the SSC. We have a passion for turning data into actionable information. By defining initiatives and goals and then gathering and validating requirements, you will create quality Business Intelligence solutions that exceed customer expectations and result in customer gratitude. Reporting to the SSC Technology Manager, you will work with SSC teams and other campus units to perform business analysis, build dashboards and help meet teams' other data analytics needs. You will present data visually in a meaningful way that enhances the ability for partners to understand and act on the information.

PLEASE NOTE:  This position is a two year term-limited role.

Responsibilities*

  • Perform business analysis, data analysis, and translate requirements into data/technical specifications
  • Build Tableau dashboards using customer requirements and data visualization best practices
  • Write queries to pull data from Oracle and MS SQL data warehouses, Google Sheets, Excel, Access, and other locations data may be stored
  • Monitor data warehouses for potential problems and work with ITS on break/fix solutions
  • Work with customers to set up custom data collection tools and consult on best ways to collect and store data

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience
  • 1 or more years professional experience in Business Intelligence reporting and analytics role
  • 1 or more years experience in a role requiring great customer service, organization, prioritization, and troubleshooting
  • Experience using Tableau
  • Experience with data visualization techniques for reporting purposes
  • Familiar with relational database and data integration concepts
  • Some experience communicating between customers, business sponsors and stakeholders and technical resources such as data architects, ETL developers, database administrators, systems analysts, or technical support personnel

Desired Qualifications*

  • Familiar with data modeling, data mapping, and data mining concepts
  • Denodo or other data analytics-related tool knowledge
  • Experience reconciling data across multiple systems to the transactional level
  • Experience with querying, sorting, merging, combining, and summarizing data in SQL Server or Oracle databases.
  • Really great to have development experience using programming languages (Python, R)

Work Locations

This position works primarily remotely. Going forward the position may be up to 95% remote and the candidate must live within a reasonable commuting distance from Ann Arbor.
