This position provides high level of financial reporting support to the Associate Director of Operations but works closely with all teams within the Department of Development. The Financial Specialist will work as a contributing member in a fast paced, service-oriented environment within Michigan Medicine.? This position requires an individual who has excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact in?a positive, professional, and courteous manner with a broad range of people and organizations. This individual must be able to organize and prioritize tasks and be self-motivated. This position further requires the candidate to be able to work well independently as well as in a team and be flexible and resourceful in resolving issues. The candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a comfort utilizing a variety of software tools.
What You'll Do
Financial - 80%
Serve as Procurement lead for Michigan Medicine Office of Development.
Responsible for fund accounting, financial transactions, account reconciliation and journal entries processing.
Process purchase orders, non-purchase orders, people pay forms, special payment forms as required for payment.
Assist departments with contracts requiring procurement approval, request for purchases, and sole source justification.
Responsible for reconciliation of the department accounts as well as the reconciliation of all major events.
Request vendor ID numbers and resolve vendor payment issues.
Work with major event planning leads to ensure proper payment methods are applied.
Interact and work closely with Campus and Michigan Medicine Procurement, Shared Services Center on service agreement projects, bids and other situations when appropriate.
Work with Financial Operations to open and close shortcode/project grants.
Process Cash Receipt Tickets (CRT’s) for football tickets and other check reimbursements.
Maintain and update Michigan Medicine Development Fundraising and budget shortcode spreadsheet.
Monitor biweekly and monthly gross pay register reports for accuracy and investigate payroll discrepancies.
Use a variety of financial applications to generate standard and ad hoc reporting as needed.
Operations - 20 %
Serve as HITS/Jabber liaison and maintain office inventory of computers and peripheral devices.
Maintain Verizon office provided cell phones, iPads, and Wi-Fi devices.
Maintain a database for equipment being used by remote employees.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
- Bachelor's Degree
- More than two years of experience in accounting, finance, or related field
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and advanced spreadsheet functionality
- Experience with generating reports from a variety of databases.
- Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills with demonstrated attention to detail.
- Proven ability to use discretion and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Candidate must have access to reliable internet.
Desired Qualifications*
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field
Previous experience with University of Michigan financial systems, business objects, accounts payable, procurement, and financial related SPG’s
Familiarity with the University of Michigan and the Michigan Medicine organizational structures
Experience with Zoom or other virtual meeting platforms
Work Locations
This position is located in the 777 Building. Free, on-site parking is provided.
This position is eligible for flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment. This position works both onsite and remotely based on the business needs of the unit.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
